Marie Claire rates beauty treatments by pain level
As the old saying goes, ‘beauty is pain’, although this is only true of certain treatments available during Yorkshire spa breaks. From threading and waxing to peels and extractions, there are a number of beauty procedures which may cause mild discomfort, but which treatment truly hits the top end of the scale? Marie Clare went to find out and provide solutions to help reduce the potential pain.
In the article by Marie Claire, facial peels and hair extensions were rated a moderate five out of ten, although this is dependent on an individual’s sensitivity of the skin and scalp. A facial peel involves dissolving dead skin cells, which can produce a stinging sensations, although this can be relieved with a cooling mask afterwards. As for hair extensions, this is mainly referring to the weft variety, due to the tight braiding. Unfortunately, there’s not much that can be done for the pain factor with extensions, but ensure you use an experienced technician.
On a scale from one to ‘ouch’
A lesser known treatment, extractions are when clogged pores are cleared by squeezing the skin to push out oil and sebum. Again, there isn’t much you do to alleviate the pain at the time, which is rated as six out of ten, but afterwards a calming agent or ice can help with any inflammation.
Next up on the list is threading, which is often used to tame eyebrows by using an ancient hair removal method. Given a pain rating of eight out of ten, it may be that many people stick to plucking, but the results are proven to be long lasting and more precise.
Unsurprisingly, Brazilian waxing tops the list, with a nine out of ten pain rating, although the article states that it does get easier the more you do it. Advice is to use numbing cream and Ibuprofen beforehand, and avoid booking an appointment when you’re premenstrual.
However, for those of you that would rather avoid these more painful treatments, why not treat yourself to a facial or massage? We have a wide range of relaxing treatments available, which will make you feel beautiful without the pain factor!
